Peters, bondservant and a missionary of the Lord Jesus by the
election of grace unto you brethren, grace and peace be
multiplied from God our Father, in Jesus the Son through the
eternal Spirit of love. Much
thanks to the Lord Almighty by whose mercies we continue unto
this day. Indeed it is by the Lord’s mercies that we are not
consumed. Much has been the challenges that I had to encounter
in recent years, but the Lord has faithfully stood by me, so
that in all of my experiences it is true that,
He is near who justifies
me—Isa.50:8
Serving the Lord in Sierra Leone has been a very worthy
engagement. It was a period characterized by much study, several
failings, and times of refreshment from on high. Indeed great
things are always fashioned in the wilderness. Serving God in
the war torn ruins of that ancient nation greatly afforded a
wonderful degree of intimacy with the Lord God.
In spite of the many
bitter privations encountered on the field, the designs of the
Great Potter only became more obvious with each passing day. The
need for explicit obedience and dependence on the Lord became
most evident during those three years of service.
There were also very wonderful instances during my stay in
Sierra Leone; many gave their lives to Christ, some of whom have
now gone to be with the Lord. Discipleship sessions were
initiated and classes continue to this day. The joy of being a
tool in the Master’s hand has been boundless as even those who
were least responsive during my days in Sierra Leone and were
apparently hostile, now fill my box with mails of how they have
been affected and blessed either by my messages or by some
attitude I had evinced at some time.
Myself, I was blessed as the Lord rewarded my meditations with
rays of illumination. Hours were spent in the word of God with
knowledgeable brethren like the saintly Steve Phillips and his
wonderful wife [Mom] whose motherhood transcends racial
distinctions. It was during my stay in Sierra Leone that I wrote
my book alongside several articles that have evoked a spectrum
of responses from different parts of the globe.
The vision to reach Africa was also properly discerned during
this period. It is worthy of note that the Dark Continent has
never experienced a reformation; A fact which clearly explains
the behavior of sons and daughters of black heritage who
constitute an intricate web of varying cultures, differing
traditions and dissimilar languages. I felt led and still
believe am led to give my life fully in service to the gospel in
view of the spiritual welfare of this continent. Preaching,
teaching, authoring and discipling people are my present target
and with God on my side, the ultimate goal is to plant at least
a proven servant of God in different/all countries throughout
the Continent.
However, it has pleased the Lord that I return to Nigeria after
three years of service in Sierra Leone. This year is dedicated
to laying foundations for ministry and marriage, duty and
devotion, study and service.
Since my arrival in Nigeria, the Lord has blessed me with the
privilege to fellowship with saints in different states, cities
and missionary outreaches to distant hamlets. Fellowshipping
with the saints has been a refuge, for upon my return, I no
longer felt I was Nigerian! The system became strange to me as
though I had never lived in Nigeria before. In Sierra Leone, the
worldview of the people readily reminded me that I was a
foreigner, back home in Nigeria, the feeling was no different. I
had been de-nationalized! Now vulnerable to loneliness and
misery, I immediately resorted to seeking out the children of
God and whenever we gather to fellowship together, the
impression has always been registered, “Ye
are not of the world, ye are citizens of heaven” This
knowledge of being intimate with the Father and His Son has been
most encouraging.
I do a verse by verse exposition of the book of Romans with the
saints in Ibadan every month, in a meeting which lasts for six
hours. This has always been a period which the word of God is
opened to the profit of all. I have been equally burdened for
the city of Oyo in Oyo state. This city boasts of many students
and generally many people but with no remarkable Christian work
going on.
It was to this effect that I have initiated a monthly meeting
tagged, “The JESUS ONLY project” attached to this letter is a
hand biill which has been
printed and distributed to invite people to fellowship with us
in this meeting. Our last session was greatly encouraging with
twenty participants all from the tertiary institution. The
attendants freely indicated that we continue with the meeting
even after we were supposed to have stopped. All partook and
each expressed the blessing that searching the Scriptures
together has brought them. Several suggestions were offered on
how we could get more people to know of the existence of a
meeting where the voice of God as opposed to the disapproving
noise of men is heard.
Howbeit, I have been seeking a residence in this city but am yet
to gain any. Once I secured a place but the owner of the place
withdrew her approval when she learned that he who spotted the
house on my behalf was known to a person with whom she had
quarreled! My offense was
that I knew someone who is known by the person whom the owner of
the house quarreled with. And though I do not know why the
Lord slammed that door shut, the Bible exhorts that thanks be
given in all things—and that includes things I know and don’t
know but of which I believe God is working.
Your prayers are coveted on my behalf with respect to
accommodation as I would need to dwell among the people if I
would disciple them. Many are interested in private discussions
with me; others have requested to live with me for sometime that
they might learn more about the Lord but physical distance has
been an hindrance.
The Nigerian telecommunication systems offer free calls within
the nation from mid-night till the early morning hours. This has
been most helpful as I get called almost every night, with
requests such as “Tell me
more about God, What do you think Paul meant when he said…..If
you are not too sleepy would you mind having a Bible study with
me” This is not without limitations though, many complain
that my phone is always busy [They can’t get through when am
speaking with someone else]. Thus, if a person pre-informed me
that he or she would call, I schedule a specific time during
which I turn down other calls for Bible studies. The demands can
be much at times that sometimes, I turn of my phone so I could
catch some sleep after days of night—morning
Bible studies.
I would not fail to mention how the Lord has greatly blessed me
by bringing me into fellowship via my website with a very dear
sister who lives in Ohio. Sister Christina is truly an Israelite
in whom there is no guile. Here is a sister who is not ruled by
pride or prejudice. Race and other earthly distinctions do not
influence her opinions. She loves the Lord and His saints, black
or white. She submits to one and all when the need arises and
has no heart for the light literature and wicked amusements of
this age. Sister Christina is a gift and unknown to her, her
humility has been noticed by those she’s never met. Her desire
is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and a visit to her
website will be most rewarding.
Her websites are
turnedfromdeath.blogspot.com
turnedfromdeath.wordpress.com.
In closing this missive, I want to acknowledge brother Jim
Baumgaertel. Much cannot be said about this dear brother.
Brother Jim is a humble servant of God and a serious servant of
Jesus Christ with a very warm personality. He visited us in
Sierra Leone and was no little encouragement. This servant of
God has been of tremendous help to me as he continues to run my
website and offers valuable advice from time to time. Brother
Jim continues to spread the word of God through his website. His
address is
Procinwarn.com. A visit to his site will serve to refresh
your spirit.
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and
fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you now and forever more.
Amen.
