O
Lord, I have heard Your speech and was afraid; O Lord, revive Your
work
In the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known;
In wrath remember mercy. –Hab.3: 2.
Our generation qualifies
for destruction.
As the age progresses,
new dimensions of evil are introduced in all of its forms. Sin
continually gains acceptance in society.
Sin governs the day and
wickedness presides over the night. Evil eclipses good. Only rarely
do you discover anyone concerned about God Himself.
Not even church-goers
are an exception, There is none righteous, no, not one;
There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God.
They have all turned aside; They have all together become
unprofitable; There is none who does good no, not one—Rm.3:11-12.
It is the will of God
that the church continues to ascend in fervency, irrespective of the
moral decadence of this world. A fire shall always be
burning on the altar; It shall never go out—Lev.6:13.
Today, the waters of
compromise have turned the fire of God into a stinking, smoking
offense to heaven. God’s fire of approval no longer graces our
altars. Empty religious dramas characterize today’s worship.
The songs of Zion have
vanished from our meetings. The harps of God hang silent upon the
willows while we dance to Lucifer’s piping. Am I the one saying so
or has God also spoken? Yes, He has. Take away from Me the
noise of your songs, For I will not hear the melody of your stringed
instruments—Am.5:23. Our double standards have afforded
cushioned seats of honor for the enemy within our midst.
Churches today are
little more than another Non-Government Organization [N.G.O]. The
word of God is trampled under men’s feet and twisted to suit their
purposes while the devotionless crowd shouts hallelujahs.
Literally, the
prophesied dreaded devastation of famine has come upon us;
Not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the
words of the Lord—Am.8:11.
Though Bible schools are on the increase,
new churches are springing up daily, and Pastors, Bishops, and
Reverends are multiplying, nevertheless the word of God is withering
steadily.
For this reason the Lord says, I hate, I despise your
feast days, and I do not savor your sacred assemblies—Am.5:21.
Friend, the Lord God seeks men who will stand in the gap.
So I sought a man among them who would make a wall, and
stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land that I should not
destroy it; but I found none—Ez.22:30.’
This is the will of God, that faithful men be found, men
whose spirits would be consumed with righteous indignation.
God seeks men who will, cry aloud, spare not lift up
your voice like a trumpet; tell my people their transgression and
the house of Jacob their sins—Isa.58:1
Will you heed the call? If this famine condition is not
reversed and the bread of God’s word not restored, we shall surely
perish.
If we choose to carry on with our dead religious services
without Christ, we are doomed. But we are all like an
unclean thing, and all our righteousness are like filthy rags; we
all fade as a leaf, and our iniquities like the wind, have taken us
away. And there is no one who calls on Your Name, who stirs Himself
up to take hold of You; For You have hidden Your face from us, and
have consumed us because of our iniquities—Isa.64: 6-7.
Woe unto him who does not stir himself up to lay hold of God!
What of us? Can heaven count on us? What will history record about
us?
God does not delight in passive Christianity. We cannot
afford to be content with the present state of things if truth will
prevail.
That no one stirs himself up demonstrates a spiritual
coldness that is repulsive to God.
Let us therefore arise and come boldly to the throne
of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in the
time of need—Heb.4:16.
God assures us of mercy and grace. Let us not draw back.
Let’s press forward and run the race with endurance, looking unto
Jesus. This is the only way to ensure fruitfulness.
Jesus Himself said without Me you can do
nothing—Jn.15:5. In light of this, all fleshly efforts of
restoration will result in a failing.
Eloquence, brilliant sermons, shouting and chanting to
musical instruments will only serve to further alienate us from the
true revival that is so desperately needed.
Instead, let us repent in contrition and humility. Let us
weep in disgust over our treacherous dealings with the only True
Lover of our souls.
Let’s cry in remorse over our wanton depravity. Like the
Psalmist, let us say, Restore us, O God of our salvation and
cause Your anger toward us to cease. Will You be angry with us
forever? Will You prolong Your anger to all generations? Will You
not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You? Show us
Your mercy, Lord and grant us Your salvation—Ps.85:4-7.
This is not a decorative pulpit prayer. It must come from
within us with deep heart rending, if we are to be restored to a
right relationship with God.
We must abandon the comforts of self-ease and the complacency
of religious mediocrity in order to earnestly seek God’s face.
It is needful that we heed the voice of wisdom, Let
your garments always be white and let your head lack no
oil—Eccl.9:8.
We must maintain a spotless purity with the power of the Holy
Spirit. That we might once again wield the sword of the Spirit
before the judgment of heaven descends on our defenseless heads.
Will you arise, or will you despise? God awaits your
response.
I
know your works that you are neither hot nor cold.
I
could wish that you were cold or hot—Rev.3:15.
